Using Menus for Homework

If you saw this post by Mrs. Claborn a few weeks ago, then you already know that she's using menus for her second graders' homework. After just 2 weeks of homework in first grade, I decided it was time to change ours up too! First grade is now also doing menus for homework and the feedback has been GREAT! This is our very first homework menu, so it's a work in progress. Like Mrs. Claborn, we're using the Laurie Westphal Differentiating Instruction With Menus for inspiration. Our principal got a set for each grade level and they are a fabulous resource! I created our menu to look like a restaurant menu with three categories: Entrees, Appetizers and Dessert. Within each category, there are 3 choices. The students choose one from each section to complete throughout the week in addition to their reading logs. We just sent the first menu home on Monday and on Tuesday morning the kids were SO excited to tell me what they'd chosed to work on so far! I can't wait to see what they bring in on Friday! Anyway, you can check out our menu below. When we send it home, it has a reading log on the back and a list of about 30-40 example short o words for them to study for our spelling test on Friday. If you're interested in how we do spelling, check out this post.

I L.O.V.E. this and learned about it in a recent Grad. class I took, but the menu was for Middle School and I never took the time to try to adjust it to First Grade. Could you send me an editable version of that template P.L.E.A.S.E so I can make it work for the back of my Newsletter. I'd be so appreciative! dsb0786@gmail.com!

I like the homework menu. Could you send me a copy so I can use it in my first grade class.

Hi Cindy! You can actually download it through scribd if you click on the little cloud with the down arrow at the bottom of the scribd window. Thanks for stopping by!

Mrs. Cave,

I know your post was a few years ago, but I am sure you will get a notification of the comment. Anyway, I am revisiting all of my favorite "menu" bookmarks with a request: Someone has posted on the Differentiating Instruction with Menus Series (https://www.facebook.com/DifferentiatingInstructionwithMenus) page on Facebook asking if I had any photos of student created products. I always informally mention sharing (and hence I only have a few photos), but because of the request, I am being more proactive. I know you have been doing menus for a while so perhaps you have some photos of student products you are willing to share on the page to address their request. I know people are doing great things so if you have any pictures of products you are willing to share on the page, I would appreciate it. :) Laurie

The following thing you need to do is to know precisely the amount of an auto installment you can bear the cost of every month. When you know this figure, then you can begin glancing around at auto ads or deals on the Internet with a specific end goal to find that great arrangement. payday loans san-diego
